Scan images at low resolutions

Image files from my scanner quickly fill my hard disk. What am I doing wrong?

You may be scanning at too high a resolution. Doubling dpi (dots per inch) quadruples the image size. Try lower values to see which gives acceptable quality. Also, when saving Jpegs, increase the compression value.
